Delta County Manufacturers May Want to Consider Manufacturing Extension Partnership

Re-developing Delta County Michigan's local manufacturing as well as finding new opportunities rests on the ability to obtain contracts. Small manufacturing business do not always have the ability or manpower to scout out new contracts. Having the information in one place where small manufacturers can review available work leads to new projects, revenues, and jobs that helps the local community.

The White House has initiated new pro-American manufacturing emphasis that gives preference to American suppliers. Delta County businesses might consider scanning this database and coordinating their efforts to meet some of these manufacturing opportunities. You can read more about it HERE

"The Hollings Manufacturing Extension Partnership (MEP) is based at the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). The national Program Office (NIST MEP) which provides the federal government funding for the MEP National Network™ is located in Gaithersburg, MD. The MEP National Network comprises the National Institute of Standards and Technology’s Manufacturing Extension Partnership (NIST MEP), 51 MEP Centers located in all 50 states and Puerto Rico, and its over 1,400 trusted advisors and experts at more than 385 MEP service locations, providing any U.S. manufacturer with access to resources they need to succeed."

Delta County's Opportunities to Develop Small Business-New Business Formation UP in Michigan!

Business seems to be pushing in as a leader in new business formation. This is good news if we find that those who were laid off from business have decided they would love to state a business and grow. Starting new business in a Pandemic may not be ideal but the one's that will succeed will also push for increase hiring a few years down the road. Small business are often known to grow fast once they are able to get through their break out stages.

Delta County Michigan has opportunities to support the micro manufacturing (especially tourism related) in the area in a way that will pay dividends a few years down the road in terms of tax revenue, lifestyle, attracting new revenues and jobs. Escanaba Polo Mallet is a local start-up that supports local growth and may at times invest/support research that helps the community.

Delta County could foster these business start ups to give the young generation the best chance at future success by developing economic clusters so they may innovate off of each other.

In Michigan we have a 61% increase in new business applications in 2020 when compared to 2, 3, & 4 % average in the state over the last decade.

If you look at the nation as a whole you will find an increase in 38% new business applications when compared to 5,6,7% ish range over the past decade.

3 Free Online Resources to Learn The Basics of Polo

Many have been enthralled by the spectacle that is polo, but few have taken the time and effort to partake in the sport. There are many hours of training, of practicing with your team and running drills amongst each other which can be quite daunting to an outside viewer. A lot of questions run through their minds: do I need to buy a horse, is it expensive, how old do I need to be? However polo is more accessible than those who have little understanding of the sport think, if you find the right resources and utilize them effectively you can be taking polo lessons in no time.

Three Resources that Can Help You Learn Polo:

There are a plethora of resources online, ranging from the websites of organizations and clubs associated with polo or even YouTube videos that serve as great mediums for teaching polo, however a lot of physical experience in the sport will truly be required to master in the sport well. Watch the online resource and practice alone and with others to get a better knowledge and muscle memory.

U.S. Polo Association: The first website on the list is the website of the United States Polo Association (https://www.uspolo.org), perhaps the most professional entry into this list, this website features a great page for newcomers to the sport. Featuring links to the various rules of polo, answers to many of the aforementioned questions, and even a system to assist people in finding polo lessons. This feature doesn’t just cover adults, but the website can also assist parents in finding lessons for their children. This website also features a great deal of information into the happenings of the wider world of polo. Visitors can browse the news related to polo on this website, and engage socially with others.

Gav Says: Created purely to fulfill the niche of online polo teaching, the website (https://www.gavsays.com/) attempts to fulfill this purpose. On this website a visitor can learn about pretty much any subject related to polo in unprecedented detail. There are video lessons on the proper grip of a mallet, and video lessons for various exercises for beginners which is part of the reason why this website was selected. If you’re looking for more advanced subjects relating to polo, there are some videos about the various tactics a team can use. This website also bears a formidable section teaching about horse handling, which will definitely benefit an individual outside of the sport. A lot of these videos are related to training the horse vital commands, which is definitely necessary for new horse owners. The best part is that the training comes from an individual who definitely knows what they’re talking about, brining 40 years of experience to the table.

PoloIn: The final resource that I’m going to bring to the table isn’t a website, rather a collection of YouTube videos by PoloIn, which I would regard as being incredibly helpful and information packed The content is all in video format which is good for new learners, so that they can visualize the information which is being explained to them.  (https://www.youtube.com/user/inPOLOin). The content also comes in layers, featuring two different series of lessons. One simply referred to as “Polo Lessons” which features the most basic information for a rider to learn, gradually increasing in complexity as the series goes on. While the second series “Professional Polo” deals with the greater intricacies of polo, and the various situations a more experienced rider could find themselves in.

GM is a college student and he writes this article as a method learning and understanding polo himself. History of Polo and the Thrill of the Game!

"The Georgians playing Polo in the Kingdom of Imereti"
Teramo Castelli, 1640.
The thunder of horses, a sharp SMACK, and the ball goes flying. In the haze of horses chasing a ball it may seem like a cacophony of action, but to a polo player they know exactly what their niche is. Each player was assigned a position with their own role in winning the game for the team, each with the reliance upon the other.

This was the original use of polo by it’s first players, the nomadic tribes of Iran in the 6th century BC, to train cavalrymen and it had spread east and west throughout the world since. There have been records of games played in the past with players numbering up to a hundred horsemen on either side. With so many moving parts, it will take the full attention of the rider, to perceive and be aware of his surroundings and simultaneously attempt to fulfill their role.

It is not a surprise that polo has such a strong continuity. Figures ranging from Saladin, to Emperor Basil the 1st practiced the sport as it found strong ground amongst the upper classes. In the middle ages it could be said the sport spanned from Japan to Constantinople. It would take a long while until it would begin to spread to the west.

The English were the first amongst their western compatriots, adopting polo during their Victorian years. It was in the British Raj that the first English polo clubs began to formulate, such as the Calcutta polo club. By the 1860s, the sport had definitely spread back to Britain; polo clubs would begin to form in mass after official rules were certified. For the British this was in 1874 by it’s governing body, the Herlingham polo association.

From there polo would spread the globe as the “sport of kings”!
