Within and Between-Tournament Variability in Equestrian Polo
GPS tracking was used to evaluate the external workload and physical demands placed on polo ponies across varying levels of play in Open and Women's Polo.
Playing duration, maximum and average speeds, and total distance traveled generally increase as the level of competition rises.
Within-tournament variability among players decreases at higher levels of play, whereas lower-level competitions demonstrate greater variability across workload metrics.
Performance parameters and workload profiles showed high between-tournament variability, as within-player differences frequently exceeded between-player differences across events.
Analyzing workload variability across tournaments helps inform tactical decisions, coaching strategies, conditional training, and long-term athletic development in polo ponies.
